Huomautus sisällöstä
  • Technological developments linked in particular to deployment of ADSL, fibre-optic and 4G networks have led to the emergence of new ways of broadcasting audiovisual content. Radio and television broadcasts are no longer received solely via terrestrial, cable or satellite channels, but also over the Internet. In this respect, a distinction must be drawn between two ways of distributing audiovisual content on the Internet. The first, which is highly developed in France, corresponds to what are known as triple play offers from Internet Service Providers (ISPs) based on the much-touted “set-top boxes”, i.e. broadcasting on the closed network of these operators, which is referred to as IPTV (Internet Protocol Television). The second method, known as OTT (Over The Top), concerns content carried on the open Internet, without ISP intermediation. Both methods make it possible, in addition to broadcasting live programmes, to offer complementary services such as replay/catch-up TV or video on demand (VoD).
