  • Making sure that everyone has access to the educational resources that are protected under copyright law is crucial to achieving high-quality education for all and invariably sustainable development goal 4 (SDG4) and its associated targets. However, the exclusionary nature of copyright law can sometimes present hindrances to the full utilisation of useful educational resources to support quality education. It can also further contribute to the exclusion of certain groups from accessing and benefiting from these resources due to factors like financial status, location, gender or disabilitiy. Despite this, copyright lawd can actually promote education, and we should explore ways to use them to support inclusive and high quality education. To overcome the challenges posed by copyright protection and practices, this paper argues that we must carefully consider and effectively implement two mechanisms: copyright limitations and exceptions, and open licensing and open educational resources, both locally and globally.
