  • This present article discusses the advantages and limitations of traditional cryptocurrency as a payment method in the music industry, and then provides a very first analysis of the potential impact of central bank digital currency (CBDC) in music licensing. In particular, it illustrates how this new technology may overcome the limits of traditional cryptocurrency, such as volatility and lack of accountability, while retaining most of its functional advantages, especially in terms of providing a faster, cheaper and more just system for the remuneration of right holders.
