Huomautus sisällöstä, tiivistelmä tms. Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You' (2017) is one of the most successful songs of the 21st century. However, in 2018 Sami Chokri (performing under the name Sami Switch) alleged that a phrase in which Sheeran sings "Oh I" in 'Shape of You" was copied from a comparable hook in which Chokri sings "Oh Why" in his 2015 song of the same name. Sheeran brought a claim in May 2018, seeking a declaration of non-infringement of copyright. On 6 April 2022, in Sheeran v Chokri, Antony Zacaroli J delivered a categorical and unqualified judgment declaring that Sheeran did not copy 'Oh Why'. This article sets out some of the key findings of the judgment as well as key takeaways for the music industry and future music plagiarism cases.
