Huomautus sisällöstä, tiivistelmä tms. Although plagiarism is not a new phenomenon, the recent spike in music infringement lawsuits is certainly a concern. Essentially, copyrighting works is important to protect the original creator, this to encourage greater innovation. However, overly strict regulation may result in the opposite with such concerns seemingly merited going by recent cases - many of them were not so much about the similarity in the songs per se but rather about the homogeneity in the fundamental elements/inputs involved in songwriting. As such, infringement interpretations in music have been heard and challenged in the courts with the key takeaways evidently raised questions surrounding overly strict copyright laws. Conventional economics may posit towards the need for stronger copyrights to safeguard innovation, but the current reality and recent cases suggest otherwise, at least in the area of the arts.
